Calcium vs. Osteoporosis: Winning the Battle at Any Age
Sigma Vital February 28, 2025 Senior Health and Aging

For bone health and osteoporosis prevention, adults aged 19-50 require 1000mg of calcium daily. After age 50, the recommendation increases to 1200mg daily. Calcium is most effective when obtained from our diet through such sources as dairy products, fortified plant-based milks, leafy green vegetables, almonds, and some fish types. If dietary sources are insufficient, consider calcium supplements.
For calcium to be absorbed and used properly, vitamin D is essential. Try to obtain 15 minutes of sunlight daily, eat vitamin-D rich foods, or consider vitamin-D supplements if necessary. Remember to maintain a balanced diet and stay active with weight-bearing exercises to promote bone health. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting a new diet or exercise regimen or taking new supplements. Follow these guidelines and take positive steps to prevent osteoporosis, irrespective of your age.
